Cannington – Dogsled Rule #1 – HOLD ON!
Despite the seasonal temps remaining just below freezing, the Cannington, Ontario dogsled races for this weekend have been cancelled due to a lack of snow. This strikes a blow for the popular venue. Last year, race organizers had to cut down the length of the 4-mile and 6-mile races to just 1 and 2 miles due to lack of snow.
As we drove through Cannington today, we saw just how little snow there was. Literally a very light dusting. The races are cancelled, but the Winter Festival, including a fair and marketplace, that they have there is still going on.
So if you are in the area, drop in and check it out. I know the Jamaican Dogsled Team is there promoting their new book One Mush by John Firth about their Jamaican musher Newton Marshall and his quest at competing in the Iditarod dogsled race.
